Betty Jean (Whitaker) Key

Betty Jean Whitaker Key, age 90, of Mt. Airy, NC, formerly of Pilot Mountain, NC, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Woltz Hospice Home. She was a retired state employee of Surry County schools cafeteria, Pilot Mountain School and East Surry High, after serving thirty years.

She was born on July 31, 1927 in Surry County, NC to the late Sam Whitaker and Mae Eads Whitaker.

Ms. Key is survived by a son, David Aaron (Barbara) Key; two daughters, Carolyn Key and Annette Sayre; seven grandchildren, Shannon Hooks, Rayvis Key, Sherri Coble, Ocean Pittenger, Mitchell Schultz, Summer Matthews, and Samantha Sayre; ten great-grandchildren, Alaina Hooks, Parker Key, Bryson Key, Sarah Franklin, Rachel Franklin, Juliette Pittenger, Sadie Pittenger, Ruby Matthews, Graham Lynthacum, and Harrison Schultz; and one great-great-grandchild, Coltson Pack.

She was predeceased by a loving husband, Alvis Key; her parents; and two sisters, Louise Spencer and Gertrude Hamlin.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday, November 27, 2017 at Cox-Needham Funeral Home at 3 P.M. with Rev. Will Eads officiating.

Interment will follow in Pilot Mountain City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
