Cora Virginia Gray Hill went to heaven on January 10, 2018. She was surrounded by her family, which is what she loved best. She was born March 18, 1923 to William Edgar “Babe” Gray and Lena Laura Slate Gray, the last surviving child of their nine children.  Virginia married James Alvin Hill on January 26, 1946 and had five children over a span of eighteen years.  Virginia’s strength and independence were evident when she got her first driver’s license at age 50 (she also renewed her license at age 90!).  She was known throughout the community for being a great cook.  Everyone loved her homemade biscuits, and you never went to her house without being offered a meal or one of the desserts she always had on hand.  Virginia accepted Christ in 1972, and had been a dedicated and active member of Albion Missionary Baptist Church since that time.

Virginia is survived by her loving family, including:  son Jerry Hill and wife Jessie, son Mike Hill,  daughter Tammy Merritt and Ted Barbee, and daughter-in-law Sandra Hill, all of Westfield, NC; and daughter Renae Harper and husband Mark, of Apex, NC.  She was preceded in death by: her husband, James Alvin Hill; her son, Roger Dale Hill; her grandchild Mandy Hill; her brothers Lloyd, Noel, Raymond, Guy, John and Ervin Gray; and her sisters Irene Dalton and Lena Mitchell.  Virginia had 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 41 nieces and nephews, and she was a mother and grandmother to many more that she loved as her own. She blessed many lives in her 94 years.

Virginia’s humble spirit and the love she showed our large family will never be forgotten. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Albion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Rogers and Rev. Ricky Easter officiating. Interment will follow at Stateline Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Albion Missionary Baptist Church from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Albion Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund in c/o Patsy Hensley,  131 Big Sky Trail, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
