Curtis Ray Shelton, age 61, of King, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at Pioneer Medical Center of King.

He was born on August 18, 1954 in Guilford County, NC to Billy Ray Shelton and Peggy Jackson Tuttle.

Mr. Shelton is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Patricia, (Patty Barneycastle Shelton), mother, Peggy Jackson Tuttle; one daughter and husband, Melissa & Keith Brown, one sister, Kimberly Cregger and three grandchildren, Alexis, Austin, & Avery Brown. Mother & father-in-law, Janice & Gordon Tilley, Sister and brother-in-laws, Judy Barneycastle, Wayne & Gloria Barneycastle, Greg & Eliane Barneycastle, Tammy Barneycastle Webster, Charles & Leigh-Anne Barneycastle, Teddy & Lisa Barneycastle, David & Jeana Barneycastle. Curtis began his professional career as a truck driver in Oct. of 1979, until 2012, he dedicated 33 years of his life and started this lifelong journey with Sanford Barneycastle and C&C transport until 1999, and began his own company as owner/operator, S/S transport; due to health reasons his truck driving career ended and he began working at Epes trucking until his death.

Curtis will leave behind a legacy of being known as a true family man; his door was never closed to his family or those in need. He was a man that gave even when he had nothing to give. He was a man that knew the meaning of “When a Man Loves a Woman”, and showed that love to his loving wife Patty of 37 years daily. Curtis loved his daughter, son in law and grandchildren and strived daily to assure his love was felt and known.

His love was not limited to his family, his wife Patty wants his fellow truckers to know how much he loved them; Roger Gordon, Jerry Golf, Dale Hazelwood, Mark McBride, Ted Chapman, Larry Bledsoe. Last but not least his Epes family, Dustin Bates, Butch Stout, John Butcher, and Sam Nifong.

He was preceded in death by father-in-law & friend, Sanford Barneycastle, his stepfather John Tuttle, Sister Louise Tuttle, Nephew Timothy Smith Jr., niece, April Sands, brother-in-law, George Cregger, aunts, Priscilla Diamond and Bonnie Perdue and uncle, Bobby Jackson.
