Ernest Byrd Key

Ernest Byrd Key, age 75, of Siloam, NC, passed away on July 19, 2016 at his home.

He was born on April 16, 1941 in Surry County, NC to the late Byrd Albert Key and Dora Hudson Key.

Ernest was a retired farmer, devoted husband, father, brother, and his favorite title of all – “Pa”. He was a great friend to all and he was always smiling. Two of his favorite things in the world were watching his grandchildren play sports and fishing at the coast. He was a member of Pine Hill Church and was one of the most humble servants of Jesus. He took his last breath on Earth in the presence of his family and took his first breath in Heaven in the presence of his Lord.

Mr. Key is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ozelle Mays Key; a son, Steve (Terri) Key; a daughter, Kimberly (Donnie) Jewell; four grandchildren, Lauren Key, Ryan Key, Ashlynn Jewell, and Mason Jewell; a brother, Granville (Rosetta) Key; and two sisters, Ruby Hall and Roxie Crissman.

He was predeceased by his parents; one daughter, Sherry Lynn Key; three brothers, Bobby Key, Sam Key, and Vance Key; and a sister, Alice Shew.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Pine Hill Church at 2 P.M with Rev. Michael Thames, Pastor Jeff Moran, and Bro. Jerry Pardue officiating. Internment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Pine Hill Church from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M.

Floral tributes will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 129 Veterans Drive, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
