J. Reid Durham

J. Reid Durham, age 88, of Westfield, NC, went to his heavenly home on  Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 3:18 P.M. in his home.

He was born on February 6, 1928 in Stokes County, NC to the late Ross Lee Durham and Carrie Dunman Durham.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1946 to 1949 and was retired from R.J. Reynolds as a truck driver for twenty-eight years. Reid loved his beagles and was an avid rabbit hunter.

Mr. Durham is survived by his loving wife, Avolene Booth Durham; three sisters, Lolene (Marion) Vaden, Laura Shelton, and Clara Piola; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Frank Durham and Ralph Durham; and two sisters, Mozelle Cook and Ruby Shelton.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church of King, NC at 1:00 P.M with Pastor Kevin Broyhill officiating. Interment will follow in the Stoney Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Westfield, NC with full military rites by the North Carolina National Guard and VFW Post 2019.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of your choosing.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the eighth floor staff of Forsyth Medical Center, KBR Hospice of Winston-Salem, Stokes County Hospice, Dr. Soresto, Dr. Messer, and caregivers, Barbara Y. Smith, Kay Hightower, Lisa Pyrtle Smith, Alan Vaden, and Timothy Rex McKinney.
