James Richard Marion, Sr., age 84, of Pinnacle, NC, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Forsyth Medical Center.

He was born on October 9, 1930 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Richard Cleveland Marion and Eliza Hardy Marion.

James served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a general contractor for more than 50 years, he served on the Surry Co. Board of Education for 16 years from 1974 – 1990 and was vice chairman for 8 years. He was an avid NY Yankees, Duke and Washington Redskins fan.  He was also a member of Fairview United Methodist Church where he served as Superintendent.

Mr. Marion is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rachel Huls Marion; two sons, James (Buck) Richard Marion, Jr. and wife, Ginger and Matthew Edward Marion and wife, Pam; one daughter, Angela Dawn Marion; one brother, Taylor (Buddy) Marion and wife, Sylvia; two sisters, Margaret Scott and Audrey Coleman; one grandson, Taylor Marion; two granddaughters, Olivia Marion and Elise Marion; several nieces and great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother-in-law, Don Coleman; infant sister Bessie Lane Marion; nephew, RE Scott and in-laws, Charles and Edith Huls.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Fairview United Methodist Church at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Bill Roberts officiating.

The family will receive friends at Cox-Needham Funeral Home on Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

A special thanks to the nursing staff on the 5th floor and 6th floor at Forsyth Medical Center.

Floral tributes will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Judes Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105 or Fairview United Methodist Church, 3692 Quaker Church Road, Pinnacle, NC 27043.
