October 9, 1931 ~ September 5, 2016 (age 84) 84 Years OldAfter a decades-long struggle against Metastasized Liposarcoma and Alzheimer’s, James Thadaeus (Buddy) Venable died at his home on the morning of September 5, 2016. He was the only son of James Archie and Sue M. Cook Venable and was born in Surry County, a place he loved his entire life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Eva Arlene V. Antee.
James studied electrical engineering at what is now NCSU. In 1958 he was employed by the Department of Radiology in Duke Hospital, becoming the first in-house X-Ray Medical Repairman in the state. He pursued his interest in this field for the next fifty-one years, twenty-eight of which were devoted to running his own X-Ray Sales and Service corporation. After health issues forced him into retirement, his loyal customers brought him pleasure as they sought his advice and expertise with their radiographic problems.
James leaves to mourn him his wife of sixty-three years, Betty Jean Parrish Venable; his son, Dr. Thomas Leon Venable; and beloved grandson, Quentin Thomas Venable. Hermione, his much-loved cat seeks daily to find him.
