Myra Lee King Hicks, age 87, of King, NC, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017 surrounded by her family at her home.

 

She was born on February 10, 1930 in Guilford County, NC to the late Roy and Delphia King.

 

Mrs. Hicks is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Harvey Lee Hicks; two sons, Aaron Lee (Barbara) Hicks and Michael King (Alice) Hicks; a daughter, Renee Hicks (Wayne) Conner; a brother, Billy King; two sisters, Margaret Newsome and Peggy Moorefield; six grandchildren, Brad (Kristal) Hicks, Joey (Lindsay) Hicks, Michael Hicks, Caroline Hicks, Matthew (Lauren) Conner, and Leeanne Conner; and six great-grandchildren: Alyssa Hicks, Timothy Hicks, Larue Hicks, Joseph Hicks, Charlie Hicks, and Harvey Ray Hicks.


She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Jesse King.

 

Myra was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was devoted to taking care of her family.  She was an avid Braves fan. She played on the 1947 State Championship women’s basketball team at Nancy Reynolds High School. She loved to attend her family’s sporting events and rarely missed a game. She retired from Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County Schools where she worked in the cafeteria. She was a member of Brown Mountain Baptist Church and sang in the choir for over 20 years. She loved to cook for her family and friends and everyone loved her “Southern Comfort Food.”

 

On Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Brown Mountain Baptist Church the family will receive friends at 1:00 pm and the funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Eddie Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
