Mr. Paul Lee Wilson, Sr., 94, of 1026 Eldora Road, Ararat, NC passed away on June 30, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.   Mr. Wilson was born on June 22, 1922 in Surry County to the late Mecie Mae Cain Wilson and Elijah Lee Wilson.  Mr. Wilson was the oldest of 17 children.   

 

Mr. Wilson grew up working the land, a passion that he continued all his life.  He always had a fantastic garden and his tomatoes were his pride and joy.  Even at the end, he had 3 tomato plants in his front yard where he could watch them grow from his bed.  Mr. Wilson served in the United States Army where he fought in WWII.  He was a member of Pine Hill Friends Church.   

 

Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Estle, his parents, 9 brothers and 4 sisters, and a grandson, Rodney Paul Nixon.    

 

Survivors of Mr. Wilson include:  son, Paul Lee Wilson, Jr. & wife, Shirley, of Siloam, NC;  daughter, Jean Nixon, of State Road, NC;  3 granddaughters:  Lora Wilson Conner (& husband, Larry) of Ararat, NC, Yvette Wilson Goodwin (& husband, Bob) of Ararat NC, Angie Nixon Shore (& husband, Rodney) of State Road, NC; 5 great-grand children: Jonathan Wilson (& Amber), Zach Wilson (& Rene), Amber Joyce, Ted Shore, and Emma Shore; 6 great-great-grandchildren: Jaylen, Caden, Tyler, Ethan, Bryson, and Keylee.   

 

Special thanks to Sharon and Tammy, the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice, and to the pallbearers:  Jonathan Wilson, Zach Wilson, Larry Conner, Bob Goodwin, Rodney Shore, and Ted Shore.  Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mt. will be assisting the family with a visitation from 6 – 8 on Saturday July 2 at Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mt. and the funeral will be held at Pine Hill Friends Church on Sunday July 3 at 3pm.
