Sherry Marlene Seward Sanders, age 65, of King, NC, passed away on April 9, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center.

“Well that day has finally come to see my Lord Jesus, all the angels, Charlie my husband, mom, dad, my brother Eddie, and my friends.  It’s been a long journey, and it started like this,  I believe my parents told me it was on a rainy Saturday morning.  We lived in a rented two bedroom shack in the town of New Haven, KY; Population 900.  Mom and Dad’s friends had come out from Louisville for the weekend, and my mother, Mary Viola Greenwell Seward, went into labor.  Hardly anyone had telephones in those days.  So here my dad, Patrick Matthew Seward, took off walking with my half-brother, Eddie Lyvers, on his big broad shoulders to fetch Dr. Greenwell, and drop Eddie off at our “Mama Quillen’s” house. The Mrs. said he was out on a call, but she would send him as soon as he got in.  Now, who do you think delivered me on March 8, 1952?  Mom and Dad’s friends!  Just as they had finished, in walked the doctor.  He looked everything over and said all was well.  They said he was a little tipsy!

But like everyone else’s lives, there were good and bad times.  My favorite teenage years were when I transferred to the county schools in my 11-12th grade year.  I thought I had died and gone to Heaven.  Gosh, having Catholic Nuns and Priests teaching you for 10 years, and all of that homework!  Then, I just “goofed off” and worked here and there and got into an ugly marriage of seven years.  But, two little boys were born from that union; PJ and David.

My second husband, Charlie, raised PJ and David as his own.  He was 21 years older than me and we were married for 28 years.  I owed him my life.  He is the only dad that PJ and David ever knew, and I’m sure that Julia and Anna still have fond memories of him.”

Mrs. Sanders is survived by her three sons, Paul Jeffrey “PJ” Cash, David Matthew Cash, and Kenneth Lee Sanders; three brothers, Patrick Michael (Ruth Ann “Ditsy”) Seward, David Gerald “Doc” (Joyce “Coogie”) Seward, and Robert Dean “Bobby” Seward; two sisters, Sylvia Gail “Sivie” (James “Ozzie”) Osbourne and Pamela Ann (Mike) Ruckriegel; three grandchildren, Julia Anne Cash, Anna Marie Cash, and Chris Sanders; a special friend, Lamar Crews; an aunt, Ruth Adams; an uncle, Arthur Greenwell; special cousin, Sharon Cederia; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Sanders Sr.; a brother, Eddie Lyvers; and a “special daughter”, Pamela Sanders Wisdom.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on April 22, 2017 at Mount Olive Baptist Church at 2 P.M.
