Shirley Smith

June 28, 1930 – June 16, 2016

Shirley Jeanne Smith, 85, of Mt. Airy, NC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 16, 2016 surrounded by family.

Shirley was born June 28, 1930 in Correy, PA; where she was adopted as an infant to Arlie and Carolyn (Sassman).  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  She was an avid reader of the bible, loved Jesus with all her heart, and really enjoyed Psalms Chapter 24.

She always looked out for everyone and made sure no one left her house with an empty belly, without getting a hug, without hearing her say “I Love You”.  She touched the heart and soul of everybody she met throughout her life.

Preceding her in death is:  Arlie Kreamer (father); Carolyn Kreamer (Sassman) (mother); David Wing (husband); Donald Bliss (husband); Elmo Smith (husband); Karen Haskins (daughter).

Surviving her are:  sister, Virginia Henry, of Vista, CA; 10 children, Timothy Wing, of Hinsdale, NY; Daniel Wing, of Rosemount, MN; Barbara Walker, of Olean, NY; Peter Wing and wife Sharon Wing, of Forest, VA; Aaron Wing; of Watertown, SD; Kathy Wing and husband James Powers, of Lexington, NC; Sarah Simihtsi, of Mt. Airy, NC; Virgil Bliss, of Lenoir, NC; Alice Wojcik; of Buffalo, NY; Amy Henderson, of Charlotte, NC; and 14 grandchildren, Angela, Joel, and Laura Wing; Joseph, James, Jeremy, and John Bliss; Clarissa, Christiana, and Andrew Wing; Sean and Eric Haskins.

Private family visitation viewing was scheduled with Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain, NC.  A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at 3:00pm EST in Maplehurst, NY at the Hinsdale Cemetery, with Reverend Peter Wing officiating.

A golden heart stopped beating, but your tender hands are at rest.  You may be gone from our sight, but God has you in his arms.  We will always have a special place for you, within our loving hearts.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that your donations be made to the American Foundation for the Blind (www.afb.org/donate); which aided in Shirley’s vision loss opportunities.

Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain (http://www.coxneedham.com, www.facebook.com/coxneedham) is respectfully serving the Smith family.
