Wayne Eugene Leonard, Sr.

Wayne Eugene Leonard, Sr., age 81, of Pinnacle, NC, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at his home.

He was born on January 17, 1936 in Bassett, VA to the late David Brovid Leonard and Emma Wright Leonard. Wayne graduated from Mocksville High School then joined the U.S. Air Force, serving his country for eight years. He worked at Fairchild-Hillard and Sears and Roebuck before working for R.J. Reynolds. Wayne spent the majority of his career at R.J. Reynolds as an electronic technician, retiring in 1995. He lived life to its fullest, spending time with his family and enjoying other pastimes with his wife such as playing bridge and traveling.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Ernestine Jones Leonard; one son, Wayne Eugene Leonard, Jr., his wife, Christy and their children, David and Katie; one daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Cross, her children, Charley, Jamey, and Ben and their father, Walter; one brother, Rev. Bobby Lee (Jean) Leonard; a special friend, Barbara DeLong; honorary granddaughters, Avery June and Anne Campbell Pace; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Keith “Dutch” Leonard.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Pinnacle United Methodist Church at 2 P.M. with Rev. Keith Newell and Rev. Lori Ann Bowen officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites by the King American Legion Post 290.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home.
