James Lewis “Jim“ Johnson, of Pilot Mtn, passed away February 15th, 2024. With his loving wife, Geneva Lawson Johnson, of almost 67 years by his side, Jim passed peacefully at home, knowing Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Preceding Jim in death were his parents, Hiram Lewis Johnson and Nannie Inman Johnson, siblings, Thomas Clayton “TC” Johnson, Ruth Johnson, Eula Mae Johnson Vaughn, and Ocho Lee Johnson McCollum. Jim Leaves behind a loving legacy with his three children, Tony and Nancy Johnson, Kim and Norm Nelson, Jay and Heather Johnson, grandchildren, Lauren and Zach Cary, Zach and Felicia Nelson, Ben and Laura Johnson, Grace Johnson, Taft Johnson, Mack Johnson, great grandchildren, Parker Cary, Auggie Cary, Beck Johnson, Ford Johnson, and Mason Nelson. In life, Jim was born and raised in Surry County. After serving his country with the US Air Force during the Korean War, Jim returned to Surry County where he met and married the love of his life, Geneva. The two later moved to Winston Salem, where Jim pursued his entrepreneurial spirit as a self-employed insurance agent with Jim Johnson and Associates. Jim knew the meaning of hard work growing up on the tobacco farm. Setting the example for his children, he carried that drive his entire life as he tirelessly pursued opportunities to provide for his family. Jim and Geneva eventually returned to their red clay roots of Surry County, where Jim will be laid to rest back in Westfield, where it all began.
A visitation will be held on February 24th, 2024 from 12:30 to 1:30pm at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on February 24th, 2024 at 2:00pm at Westfield Friends Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care.
