Mr. Donnie Jay Van Benge entered eternal life on March 11, 2019. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Vicky Lynn Benge, brother and sister in-law; Mark and Kelly Benge, sister and brother in-law; Sharon and Jerry King, nephew, Travis King; niece; Grace King; sisters in-law; Susie Rogers, Joan Adkins, Helen Mitchell, and Terry Fulp; brothers in-law; David Mitchell, Johnny Fulp, Jimmy Fulp and Donnie Rogers; nephews and nieces; Brian, Bradley, Joshua, Candie, Wendie, Tina, Crystal, Brianna, and Misty.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lonnie William Benge and Nellie Rogers Benge, infant son, William James Benge; and a sister, Miriam Melissa Benge; brothers-n-law; Charles Adkins, Jackie Fulp and James J. Fulp.
Donnie was born in Forsyth County on May 4, 1959. Growing up enjoyed playing with his brother, sisters and cousins. He enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, dirt biking, and spending time at the following race tracks: Log Cabin, Friendship and 311 Speedway. He was a crew chief on Jimmy Jessup's #46 race car, as he was very skillful with cars. In his later years, he took excellent care of his ailing mother despite his own health issues. Donnie was a devout Christian and was a member of the Dan River Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband to Vicky for 26 years. Vicky and the family were with him at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where Donnie bravely finished his race with lung disease and fell into the Lord's open arms on March 11, 2019.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Cox Needham Funeral Home. The Pastors Andy Pack and Jack Anderson will be officiating.
The family asks that all donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Cox Needham Funeral Home for funeral expenses.
