Dorothy Sechrist Simmons, 95, of Westfield, NC passed away on November 5, 2018 at LifeBrite Hospital in Danbury. She was born in Stokes CO., NC on April 4, 1923, to the late Reid and Mallie Wilson Sechrist. Dorothy was of the Baptist faith and a faithful member of Brown Mountain Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and sung in the church choir for many years. Dorothy was a housewife, a farmer and retired from JP Stephens Elastic Plant.
Surviving to cherish Dorothy's memory are: One son, Richard "Billy" Simmons and wife Kay; one grandchild, Keith Simmons and wife Krista; two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Devin Simmons, the loves of her life; one brother, Jesse Jack Sechrist.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gaither Simmons, her parents, Reid and Mallie Sechrist, one sister Anna Belle Himes, one brother Davis Sechrist and her beloved dog Charlie who kept her company for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 2 PM at Brown Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Carter and Rev. Raymond Needham officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Cox-Needham Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to LifeBrite Hospital and Nursing Home for all the nurses that cared for her during the bad times and the good, Mountain Valley Hospice for all the loving care they gave her, also, a special thanks to Teresa Trammel her caregiver. A special thank you to her church family and all who visited her and cared for her.
