Mrs. Dovie Denny Smith, age 88, of King, NC, passed away on June 19, 2018.
She was born in Stokes County on April 30, 1930, to John “Sid” Denny and Emma Chandler Denny. She worked for the Selective Service A.K.A. “Draft Board” until it was disbanded in 1973. She then worked and retired from the Veterans Administration.
She is survived by a son, Mark Smith and wife, Kimberly; two grandsons, Dustin Smith and wife, Jordan and Jeremy Smith and wife, Tyesha; four great-grandchildren, Callen Smith, Wilder Smith, Finley Smith, and expecting baby boy, Landon Smith; one sister, Oneeda Brendle; and two brothers, Marshall Denny and wife, Marlene and Vernon Denny and wife, Jeanie.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herman “Leo” Smith; her parents, John “Sid” Denny and Emma Chandler Denny; two sisters, Rhuemell Flippin and Dorothy Denny; and two brothers, Bill Denny and J. W. Denny.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Wackerhagen officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 22, 2018, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
