Harvey Lee “Bud” Hicks, age 93, of King, NC, passed away on November 28, 2017.

 

He was born on April 4, 1924 in Stokes County, NC to the late William Hicks and Flora Cox Hicks.

 

Harvey was a loving husband and father, he never missed a practice or one of his children’s games. He was an avid rabbit hunter, fly fisherman, and expert gardener. He attended Nancy Reynolds High School. Harvey attended Brown Mountain Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran WWII infantry marksman in Big Red 1. He received The Order of The Crown of Belgium by the ambassador to the U.S. from Belgium and a Purple Heart.

 

Mr. Hicks is survived by two sons, Aaron Lee (Barbara) Hicks of Graniteville, SC and Michael King (Alice) Hicks of Greenwood, SC; a daughter, Renee Hicks (Wayne) Conner of Lewisville, NC; six grandchildren, Brad (Kristal) Hicks of Aiken, SC, Joey (Lindsay) Hicks of Graniteville, SC, Michael Hicks of Clemson, SC, Caroline Hicks of Clemson, SC, Matthew (Lauren) Conner of Winston-Salem, NC, and Leeanne Conner of Lewisville, NC; six great-grandchildren, Alyssa Hicks, Timothy Hicks, Larue Hicks, Joseph Hicks, Charlie Hicks, and Harvey Ray Hicks; and a brother, Homer Hicks.


In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 71 years, Myra Lee King Hicks.

 

On Friday, December 1, 2017 at Brown Mountain Baptist Church the family will receive friends at 1:00 pm and the funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with Rev. Eddie Carter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military rites provided by the King American Legion Post 290.
