Helen Joyce (Bateman) Nelson

Mrs. Helen Joyce Bateman Nelson, age 86, of Pilot Mountain, NC, passed away on March 4, 2018. She was born April 1, 1931, in Patrick County, VA to the late Harvey Bateman and Hope Mills Bateman.

Mrs.  Nelson is survived by her husband, James Spencer Nelson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Hope (Chuck) Trumpie and Joyce (Bill) Bowles; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim (Phyllis) Nelson; three sisters, Mary Alice Bennett, Nelda Jester, and Aleene Gordon; one brother, Robert Bateman; eight grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda Cox; two brothers, Dale Bateman and Roger Bateman; and a granddaughter, Katie Nelson.

A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Brim’s Grove Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Gerald Jones and Rev. Linda Anderson officiating. 

Private interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30-2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
