Jesse Jack Sechrist, age 90, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away peacefully at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, Thursday, April 25, 2019. He was born in Stokes County on July 17, 1928 to the late Jesse Reid and Mallie Wilson Sechrist.
Jack was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars where he served his country in the Army from November 1950 to August 1952 and the Air Force from December 1957 to March 1976 when he retired from the military as Sgt. 1st Class. During his military career he received a Combat Infantry Badge and a Bronze Star in 1969 and he served in fourteen foreign countries. After this, Jack worked as a security guard at Westinghouse. He was of Baptist faith and a member of Brown Mountain Church. Jack lived life to the fullest and was loved by many.
Surviving to cherish Jack’s memories are one nephew, Richard “Billy” Simmons, and wife, Kay of Westfield; one niece, Anne Wheaton, and husband, David of Denver, Co.
Special friends, James Redding, for always being there, and the family of Geldy Alva, his neighbors for years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Dorothy Simmons and Anna Belle Himes; and brother, Davis Sechrist.
A special thank you to the nurses at Woltz Hospice Home for the special care they gave our Uncle Jack; to the staff at Creekside Terrace in Winston-Salem; and to all of his friends who visited him from the Brookdale Senior Living in Winston-Salem where he called home.
A graveside service with full military honors provided by VFW MA 2019, PM9436, and US Air Force Honor Guard will be held on April 29, 2019 at Brims Grove Baptist Church at 2:30 pm with Rev. Mark Wright officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home before being taken to the graveside service.
