Norman Henry Mickey

Norman Henry Mickey, age 92, of Westfield, NC, went home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2018. During his illness he enjoyed listening to gospel music and passed away while listening to the song “I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You.”  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a man of strong faith in God.

He was born on December 7, 1925, at the home of his grandmother, Belle Gunter Coffer, in Stokes Co., to the late Sam W. and Mabel (Coffer) Mickey.

He was a 1944 graduate of Nancy Reynolds School and entered the Army that October.  He served in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines and the occupation of Japan.  He grew up farming and working in his dad’s store and garage.  He worked many years as a mechanic, retiring from Parkway Ford, and gained a reputation for being one of the best mechanics in the area.  He married Shirley Vaden and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

He was a member and deacon at Stoney Ridge Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for 40 years.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Walnut Cove and formerly served on the Board of Directors of Sauratown Fire Dept.

Mr. Mickey is survived his loving wife, Shirley Mickey; a son, Christopher Norman Mickey and wife, Tammy; a daughter, Janelle Mickey Johnson and husband, Butch; a brother, George Mickey; a sister, Sammie Beasley; and four grandchildren, Joseph Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Daniel Bennett, and Kurtis Mickey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam W. Mickey and Mabel Lee Coffer Mickey and an infant son, Jerry Sandy Mickey.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, August 13, 2018, at Stoney Ridge Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Dean White and Rev. Jim Cohn officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by King American Legion Post 290 and the NC National Guard Military Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 12, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home.
