Rupert Joseph Rippey, 83, of Mount Airy, passed away at his home on November 30, 2019. Born March 15, 1936, in Carroll County, Va., he was the son of Raleigh Columbus and Alice Edwards Rippey. He leaves behind to cherish his memory; two sons, Jeffery Wayne Rippey and James Mark Rippey; eight grandchildren, Cheyenne Rippey, Nikki Rippey (Gary) Tilley, Amber (Brad) Rippey, Adam (Erin) Rippey, Matthew Crotts, Daniel Tate, Stephanie Rippey, and Amanda (Kevin) Danley; several great-grandchildren; and special thanks to a special friend, Jessica Williams, for her caring and singing for Mr. Rippey during his illness. Mr. Rippey was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife, Virginia “Gin” Smith Rippey; a son, Bobby Joe Rippey; a daughter Pamela Ann Rippey Tate; five brothers, Harlie Rippey, Grady Rippey, Paul Rippey, Rawden Rippey, and Glenn Rippey; and one sister, Gladys Hawks.
Mr. Rippey was known for his devotion to his wife and family. He enjoyed his 18 years as a dump-truck driver but would jump at the chance to go fishing! His family loved his caring nature and his cooking, especially the white pepper gravy and green beans. He will be sorely missed for his many endearing qualities.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church at 15315 Fancy Gap Hwy, Cana, VA 24317. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 2:00 PM at the church and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Rickey Martin will be officiating.
