Allen Lakey Cornelius, Sr. of Pilot Mountain, NC passed away peacefully in his sleep May 7, 2021. He was born May 28, 1938 to Wade R. Cornelius and Doris Taylor Cornelius. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, DC Cornelius (Faye) and Wade L. Cornelius (Mickey). He is survived by his wife, Peggy C. Cornelius; children, Allen Lakey Cornelius, Jr. (Kathleen), Alesa Cornelius Hawks (Patrick); brother, Kenneth E. Cornelius (Veona); and several nieces and nephews.

Allen was well respected in the automotive dealership community as a sales manager and also as a business owner. Allen’s personality and easy-going nature made him loved by all. His nickname in high school was “Hot Rod.” In his lifetime, he owned more than thirty convertibles. He built several street rods: two of which were featured in national publications.

A memorial service will be held May 30, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Unity Church of Winston-Salem. A very special thank you to the staff of Brookdale Reynolda for their incredible care.
