Aubrey Moore Obituary

Moore, Aubrey Rae

August 14, 1948 – June 25, 2024

Born in Shoals, N.C. to the late Ray M Moore and Irene Chilton Moore, Aubrey died doing what he loved, in the place he loved: tending to the farmland where he was born and spent his 75 years.

Aubrey graduated from East Surry High School and married Rachel Marion, the love of his life. Together they raised one son, Tracy, whom Aubrey taught everything he knew about hard work, farming strawberries and tobacco. He worked for Allied Mechanical Service for 28 years. During this time, he founded Aubrey Moore Farms and became one of the first large-scale tobacco farmers in the area. Aubrey was an astute farmer who enjoyed sharing the knowledge he gained from a lifetime of work in agriculture. He met some of his closest friends through his farm and mechanic work.

When not working the land or under the hood of a truck, Aubrey could be found at the beach or the mountains with his family, following professional sports, or attending scholastic events for his granddaughters, whom he cherished. His family will remember him for his humor and generosity.

Aubrey is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Rachel Marion Moore; son, Tracy Ray Moore (Julie); two granddaughters, Hannah Irene and Sarah Elizabeth Moore. Also surviving are a sister, Margie Meggs (Wayne); niece, Sharon Ayers; great-nephew, Ryan Ayers; great-niece, Holly Ayers Shelton (Justin); two great great nephews, Jackson and Lucas Shelton; and many friends and farm animals. Aubrey was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shelby Bayles; and niece, Charlene Bayles.

Aubrey will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
