Benny Coleman, Sr. Obituary

Benny Elwood Coleman, Sr., 91, of Pinnacle, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center on June 16, 2020. Born, May 7, 1929, he was the son of Elbert and Nevada Elizabeth Cox Coleman.  Mr. Coleman leaves behind to cherish his memory, his adoring wife of 65 years, Winifred Shelton Coleman; two daughters and son-in-law, Deborah King Melina, Theresa Coleman (Tres) Bagley; a son, Benny E. Coleman, Jr.; three grandchildren, Josh (Kacey) Thomas, Coral Russell, Spencer Russell; two great-grandchildren, Island and Olivia Thomas; a sister-in-law, Audrey Coleman; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Coleman, Donnie Gray Coleman, Rex Coleman; three sisters, Verta Coleman, Lunda Denny, and Edna Gordon; brothers-in-law, Glen Gordon, Phil Denny; and a sister-in-law, Lois Coleman.

A life of love for his wife, family, and church was filled with great experiences.  Described by his wife as, “the best man I’ve ever known,” he always found kind words to share with others.  His wife recalls his love of music, his wonderful dancing, a love of foxhunting and deer hunting and his children recall his sense of humor and his being quite the jokester.  Church and church family were very important to Mr. Coleman and he remained involved as long as his health would permit.

Mr. Coleman will be available for viewing Thursday, June 18, 2020 from 12:00-5:00 PM and Friday, June 19, 2020 from 8:30 AM-5:00 PM at Cox-Needham Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Cox-Needham Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior to the service.  The Rev. Janet Dixon and the Rev. Lori Anne Bowen will be officiating.  Tommy Shelton, his brother-in-law, will deliver the eulogy.   Interment will follow the service at the Pinnacle United Methodist Church cemetery.
