Betty Jo Jarrell Cardwell, age 95, of Pfafftown, went home to be with her Lord and savior on April 12, 2023, at Rose Tara Memory Care in King, after a long battle with Dementia.
She was born on January 10, 1928, in Mount Airy, to the late Arthur Colon Jarrell and Emma Arizona Callie Barker Jarrell (Zona).
Mrs. Cardwell worked as a secretary in the insurance industry for over fifty years and served as President of the Women’s Insurance Association of Winston-Salem. Along with flower gardening she was an excellent cook, who loved traveling and spending time with her family. She was also a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where she taught Ladies’ Sunday School and served as Church Treasurer for many years.
She is survived by her son, James Cardwell (Rhonda); three daughters, Sue Parker, Beverly Carroll (Dennis), and Teresa Vernon; two sisters, Wilma Hiatt (Agee) and Brenda Clinard (Mickey); eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cardwell was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Cardwell; infant son, James Thomas Cardwell, Jr.; two brothers, Rudolph Jarrell and Gary Jarrell; one sister, Mary Rose Clayton; and two sons-in-law, Wayne Parker and Tony Vernon.
The family will be holding a private graveside service. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 15, 3:00 pm at Vienna Baptist Church, 1831 Chickasha Drive, Pfafftown, NC, with family visitation to follow in the Church Fellowship Hall. The family is asking in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Rose Tara Memory Care in King or the Alzheimers Association.
