Mrs. Blanche Wells Spangler, age 97, of Mt. Airy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Blanche was born on May 16, 1927, in Claiborne County, Tennessee, to the late John and Pearl Loupe Wells.
She was a remarkable woman, with an exceptional work ethic and a heart for service, Blanche was a devoted Private Duty Home Care CNA who cared for the residents of Mt. Airy and Pilot Mountain until the age of 92. Her clients loved the warmth and compassion she brought into their homes, and she took great joy in serving them. Known for her kindness and dedication, Blanche was a friend to many and an invaluable presence to those she cared for.
Blanche enjoyed sewing and was a master seamstress, had a great love for her family, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. A lover of nature, she especially admired eagles and cardinals. Her faith was central to her life; as a devoted member of True Vine Baptist Church in Mt. Airy, she rarely missed a church function and was steadfast in her love for the Lord.
Blanche’s memory will be cherished by her daughter, Pamela (John) Palmer; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Misty) Palmer, Kristina Palmer, Daniel (Kim) Palmer, and Briana Palmer; her great-grandchildren, Andrea Palmer, Max Palmer, and Jamie Palmer; her stepchildren, James Everett Spangler Jr., Smokey Lee (Ruth) Spangler, and Yvonne Elaine (Greg) Zabrucky; as well as step-grandchildren, Michelle, Stephen, Tommy, Candace, Kimberly and Kelly and step-great-grandchildren, Jessica and Danielle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Alex Harvey Smith and James Spangler.
A funeral service will be held at Cox-Needham Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 5th, at 3:00 pm, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Rawley Haynes & Pastor Darrell Cox will be officiating the service. Interment will follow on Wednesday, November 6th, at 1:00 pm at Salisbury National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her James.
Blanche’s legacy of faith, love, and dedication will be forever treasured by all who knew her.
