Carl Gaither Flinchum, 97, of Pilot Mountain, passed peacefully in his sleep, July 14, 2021. Born October 27, 1923, he was the son of E. G. and Hettie Denny Flinchum. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn F. (Ron) Hoover; four sons, Steve Paddock, Robert Donald Paddock, Michael David Paddock and Terry Flinchum (N.Y.); two sisters, Betty Flinchum and JoAnn Flinchum Trudick (Nick); brother-in-law and sister-in-law Elaine Flinchum; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and two very special friends, Larry Covington and Wayne Covington. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Teddy Flinchum, a brother, Lawrence Flinchum; and two sisters, Dorothy Flinchum Wade, and Edith Flinchum Ward.
He lived a remarkable, long life, working hard, raising his family and helping his friends. Even in his later years, he enjoyed walking. He walked regularly with his dogs on strolls to the river. After walking outside became too difficult, he was known to use his walker and walk laps in his home. His determination and gentle nature will be deeply missed.
A private graveside inurnment will be held at Whitaker Chapel Church.
The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice for their compassion and excellent care of their father.
