Chris Handy, born on May 2, 1966, was unexpectedly taken from us on December 28, 2025. Those who had the chance to know him—through work, travel, training dogs or wine and food pairings—came to know a few unmistakable truths about who he was.
First, Chris was a man who could sit back and quietly observe a crowd or, when the moment called for it, deliver a perfectly timed snide remark if the need arose. Second, he loved his work colleagues, a group that allowed him to function as both the firefighter waiting in the firehouse and mentor on the team. Many of them felt more like family than just coworkers. Third, he treated his dogs like his children, with unwavering devotion and care. And fourth, above all, he deeply loved his wife, Michelle. His grand gestures put every rom-com to shame and reflected the depth of his heart. He also loved to travel and, over the last few years, was grateful and blessed to take a few amazing trips that brought him deep joy. As well as many RV trips where his two chocolate labs could accompany him.
He started as a firefighter, before transitioning to IT Services within Healthcare. He loved every job he had and went above and beyond to do his absolute best. One thing that brought him the most joy was to discuss, with anyone interested, his love for his chocolate labs and dog training. He and his beloved therapy dogs, Mollie and Harper, spent many hours doing what they loved.
Chris was fiercely protective of those he cared about. He would want everyone to continue traveling, enjoying a good glass of wine, and moving forward—even when the path ahead isn’t the one we would have chosen.
