David Lawson Obituary

David Junior “Sam” Lawson was born on October 12, 1956, in Surry County and passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at Forsyth Medical Center.

Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Patty Sechrist; his devoted wife of 49 years, Vickie Gordon Lawson; his only daughter, Samantha Lawson (Cody) Truell; and his beloved grandchildren, Kaylee and Carson Truell. He is also survived by his sister, Terry Holt; sisters-in-law, Gay Heath and Jan Gordon; nephews, Scott and Tracy Heath; and a multitude of cousins.

Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by his father, Davis Lawson; his brother, Joey Lawson; his mother-in-law, Fern Gordon; and two special brothers-in-law, Larry Gordon and Bobby Heath.

A hardworking family man, Mr. Lawson served as an electrical lineman at Pike Electric for twenty-five years. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies and had a special love for his fur-babies—Harley, Susie, and Max. He especially treasured spending time outdoors with his grandchildren. Known as a professional jokester, he was recognized by many as “the man in the red Toyota truck, hat on backwards, and dogs in the truck bed.”

The most important aspect of Mr. Lawson’s life was his deep love for and relationship with Jesus Christ.

He was a monumental pillar of his community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Cox-Needham Funeral Home with Bro. D.C. Collins officiating.
