Erlene (George) Wood

Erlene George Wood, 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021. She was born September 14, 1933 to John Samuel and Evelyn Collins George. Left behind to cherish her memory are, her son and daughter-in-law, Stan (Suzanne) Wood; her granddaughters and their spouses, Kirsten (Brian) Royster, Kianna (Kyle) Sebastian; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Nellie (Lester) Overby, Glenda (Delana) Biggs, Rita (Jeff) Clarke; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy (Mavis) George, Melvin (Nancy) George, Jerry (Wanda) George, Ira (Georgia) George, Robert (Shirley) George and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Delbert Roberts Wood. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching children’s Sunday school. Erlene was a nurse caring for others in Alleghany and Stokes County areas. She was a quiet, loving, and nurturing wife, mother, daughter, and grandmother. She cherished visits with her family and friends. She will lie in state at Cox-Needham Funeral Home on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM.  Due to Covid, a graveside service with immediate family will be held Saturday at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Randy Roberts will be officiating. The family requests that all attendees please wear masks and practice social distancing. If not feeling well or are running a fever, please refrain from attending, to aid in the prevention of the spread of COVID-19. Condolences to the family may be left at www.coxneedham.com.
