Gary Gene Simmons, 61, of Westfield, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 9, 2021. Born January 16, 1960, he was the son of William R. and Ruby Chilton Simmons. Left behind to cherish his precious memory are, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris Ann Simmons (Winfred) Martin, Kathy Ruth Simmons Key, Sherri Dawn Simmons (Toby) Hill; a special uncle and aunt, Leonard and Laverne Gammons; two special nieces, Shannon Martin Roberson, Misty Bruner; and two special cousins, Dean Gammons and Lynn Cox. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Van Simmons.
Gary was a gift to those who were blessed to know him. Endearing in his loving nature, Gary touched the hearts of everyone and never met a stranger. He knew nothing of malice, deceit, or anger, only knowing joy and love. He lived a life of happiness. He loved to watch westerns on TV, listen to music, and look at books. He enjoyed going to the workshop during the week and attending church on Sundays. Despite health issues and many obstacles in his life, Gary never complained. Many hearts are breaking in his absence and he will forever be remembered as an angel that lived on earth.
Gary will lie in state Wednesday, March 10 from 1:00-5:00 PM, Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, and Sunday from 9:00-12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Workshop at the Stokes Opportunity Center located at 1080 Neal Road, Walnut Cove, NC 27052, would be deeply appreciated. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Asbury Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery at 2:00 PM. Pastor Mark Carlyle, Pastor Rickey Rogers, and Dr. David Sparks will be officiating. The family asks that all attendees please wear masks and practice social distancing. If not feeling well or running a fever, please refrain from attending.
