Gaynell Ziglar Hyatt, age 102, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Salemtowne Retirement Community.
Born on July 9, 1923, in Forsyth County, she was the daughter of the late Reuben Emmitt Ziglar and Lula Phillips Ziglar. After graduating from Welcome High School, Gaynell moved to Arlington, Virginia, where she worked for the Signal Corps. She later returned home and married Norman M. Hyatt, with whom she raised three children.
Gaynell retired from Wachovia Bank after many years of dedicated service. She was a faithful member of Ardmore United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women, holding various leadership positions both locally and at the district level. She also volunteered with the Shepherd’s Center. Her church, as well as Salemtowne, was truly her extended family. She cherished the fellowship of her many friends, especially during card games, whisk, rummikub, and bingo.
In addition to her parents, Gaynell was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia H. Lawson; her brother, Reuben E. Ziglar; sisters, Louise Z. Robinson and Bonnie Z. White; and her son-in-law, Terry L. Brown.
She is survived by her daughters, Norma H. Brown and Melonia H. Carroll (Kenneth); six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Rose, Bobbie, and Margaret, as well as all the compassionate staff and friends at Salemtowne, for their kindness and care. They are also deeply grateful to Trellis Supportive Care for their loving support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ardmore United Methodist Women or Ardmore United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cox-Needham Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Hyatt family.
