Mr. George Vernon Mickey, age 82 of Westfield, passed away unexpectedly to be with the Lord at his home on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
He was born in Stokes County on June 16, 1943, in the same house where he passed. He was the youngest of three children of Sam & Mabel Coffer Mickey. The home where he grew up was next to his fathers' store & garage, so he learned mechanical skills watching his dad work on automobiles. He worked a large part of his life on a cattle farm. Throughout his life, George enjoyed working on tractors & lawnmowers, taking motors apart & reassembling them. He also liked playing practical jokes. He loved watching old TV shows, particularly westerns.
George attended Nancy Reynolds School & grew up attending Stoney Ridge Baptist Church where his mother was a Sunday school teacher. Before Covid, he attended church regularly & as one of the greeters who handed out bulletins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Norman Mickey; his sister, Sammie Mickey Beasley; & his nephew, Dale Beasley. Those left to cherish his memory include his one niece, Janelle Johnson, of Mayodan; four nephews, Chris Mickey, Melvin Beasley & James Beasley, all of Westfield, & David Beasley, of Lexington; as well as several great-nieces & great-nephews.
A celebration of life for Mr. Mickey will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Stoney Ridge Baptist Church in Westfield. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jim Cox will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory may be made to Stoney Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 1030 Stoney Ridge Rd. Westfield, NC 27053.
