Gladys Badgett Flippin Shuler peacefully left this earthly life on June 9, 2025 at Brighton Gardens in Winston Salem, NC to join her family and friends in Heaven. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her loving smile, genuine kindness, great sense of humor and generosity. She was a life-long Christian, loved by many and a wonderful influence to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by so many who loved her.
She was born in Surry County to the late Hoyt L. Badgett and Ruby Denny Badgett on January 9, 1934. A 1952 graduate of Copeland High School, she enjoyed being a cheerleader and participated in several clubs and activities. She lived in the Winston-Salem area while raising her children, and worked for Hanes Hosiery for 22 years and then for Lambe-Young Realtors. She moved to Kingsport, TN in 1978, adopting the Shuler family as her own, and worked in the family business managing real estate property. While there, she made many dear friends in the surrounding area. While in TN and VA she was in her element as she had the opportunity to farm and garden as she had done growing up. She returned to the Winston Salem area in 2010, and lived in Rural Hall for several years, enjoying her sewing group and community garden group, and taking care of flowers of all sorts in her yard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack W. Badgett, James A. Badgett, and Fred Preston Badgett; sister, Edith B Nixon; infant grandson, Christopher Eric Duggins; the father of her children, Jack W. Flippin; and several beloved brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Sandra Gail (Randy) Duggins; sons, Homer Lee Flippin and David Wayne (Danita) Flippin; grandchildren, Wesley (Jessica) Duggins, Kimberly (Michael) Wiseman, Adam (Rachel) Flippin and Zachary (Courtney) Flippin; great-grandchildren, Eric W. Duggins, Olivia Duggins, Audrey Flippin and David D. Flippin; brother, Ray (Sue) Badgett of Martinsville, VA; sisters, Madge B. Mills of Ararat, NC, Dorothy B. Scott of Pilot Mountain, Edna M. Wilmoth of Dobson and Annie Lee B. Wall of Siloam.
The family extends their thanks to our mom’s special friend and sister-in-law, Bobbie Mason. They are also very appreciative of the loving care provided during her final days by the staff at both MediHome Hospice and Brighton Gardens.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Union Primitive Baptist Church on Monday June 16th at 2:30 pm with a visitation held an hour prior. Rev. Austin Caviness will be officiating.
If you would like, memorials may be made to Union Primitive Baptist Church or cemetery fund ( Mail in care of Graham Mosley at 1090 Bradford Rd. Dobson, NC 27017) or the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.
