Grady Leland Marion, 80, of Pinnacle, NC, went home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2021.
A hard-working man, he was a jack-of-all-trades. After retiring from Cres Tobacco, he was able to focus on the farm, with his son, Andy. He dabbled in raising ostriches, emus, donkeys, llamas, chickens, ducks, and cows. Though he felt right at home on a tractor, his favorite pastime was fishing. He was a devout Christian and member of Pilot Mountain Community Church and was so happy on his Baptism day. He loved spending time with his family. Grady never met a stranger and always said, “There’s always room at the table for another set of feet.”
Grady is survived by his wife of sixty years, Polly Anna Cromer; four children; two sons and two daughters; Dorothy Marion (Grant) Keaton of Westfield, Ricky (Jennifer) Marion of Mount Airy, Andy (Pam) Marion of Pinnacle, and Sherry Marion (Tony) Hedrick of Pilot Mountain; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ola Blevins of King, Faye Lawson of Dobson, Edna Cooke of Westfield, Ruth Frye of East Bend; and one brother, Hassell Marion of Dobson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady Marion and Minnie Barr Marion; three sisters, Alma Wilson, Viola Tolbert, and Frankie Marion; five brothers, Russell, Gilmer, Donald, Richard and Smith Wayne Marion; and a grandson, Austin Marion.
A funeral service will be held at Cox-Needham Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 2:00 PM with interment to follow in the Whitaker Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery. The Rev. Gary Sawyers and the Rev. Robert Culler will be officiating. Mr. Marion will lie in state prior to the service on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 1:00-5:00 and on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 9:00 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice at 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
