Hazel Smith Obituary

Hazel Magdelene Wright Smith, age 92 of Westfield, peacefully passed away on the evening of Friday, October 4th, 2024, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, surrounded by love and family. Hazel was born on January 12, 1932, in Stokes County to the late Barnie Wright and Myrtle Hattie Hill Wright.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Hazel worked as a machine operator at J.P. Stevens. She was the first female forklift driver at RJ Reynolds.   She was cherished by all who knew her. She had a strong love for reading, gardening & family genealogy.  She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience that will be forever cherished by her family and friends.

Those left to honor her memory include her beloved children, Michael (Beth) Smith, Darrell (Sharon) Smith, and Kevin (Sandra) Smith; her grandchildren, Mitchell Smith, Brandon Smith, Barbara Lopez, Samantha Runnfeldt, and Maggie Smith; sister-in-law, Betty Wright; along with several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her loving husband, J.K. Smith; her brothers and sisters-in law, Kenneth and Barbara Wright, Lester Wright, Charles and Thelma Wright; and two grandchildren, Robert and William Smith.

A funeral service to celebrate Hazel's life will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Francisco Presbyterian Church in Westfield. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the church on Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery, where Hazel will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. Rev. Rickey Rogers & Bro. Terry Collins will officiate the services.
