J.D. Avera, Jr.

J.D. Avera, Jr, age 80, of 160 Atkins Lane, Mount Airy, North Carolina, passed away on February 3, 2022, at his residence.

He was born on January 14, 1942, in Valdosta, Georgia to the late June Dalton Avera, Sr. and Oleta Verma Walker Avera.

Mr. Avera was a parts manager for Ray’s Travel Trailers in Orlando, Florida during his working years. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, in Mount Airy, and Powers Drive Baptist Church, in Florida, where he served as an active deacon and Sunday School teacher.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marla Roseboom Avera; son, Kenneth Dalton Avera, Sr. (Jane Simms); daughters, Laurie Atkins and Cindy Casolino (Gustavo); brother, William Avera; sister, Verma Hoeltke (Stephen); two granddaughters, Kristina Avera and Jennifer Avera, whom Mr. and Mrs. Avera raised from birth; nine additional grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Mr. Avera was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted February 12, 2022, at 2pm at Victory Baptist Church with Dr. Joey Jessup officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Skyline Memorial Gardens.
