Mr. Jack Darrell Marion Sr., 74 of Pinnacle, North Carolina passed away peacefully at his home on November 16, 2023. He was born on August 11, 1949 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late Royce Ray and Bettie Ashley Marion.
Jack was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend and neighbor. He always made himself available to lend a helping hand to anyone who called upon him. So many friends, family and neighbors knew they could call on Jack for help and there was not a task he would not take on. He was a certain ‘Jack’ of all trades. He was a car enthusiast and shared his love and talent of working on cars with his sons.
He was an avid lifelong Boy Scout achieving the rank of Eagle Scout from Troop 741. He spent many years volunteering as a mentor to Boy Scout Troop 545 and encouraged both of his sons to also achieve their rank of Eagle.
The coast of NC was one of Jack’s favorite places to spend time. He loved boating and fishing with his sons and neighbors. He was a highlighted performer each year at the annual talent show that he helped found for coastal friends and family for over the past decade.
Jack graduated from East Forsyth High School, class of 1967. He attended the Piedmont Aerospace Institute in Winston-Salem, graduating in 1969.
He served four years in the U.S. Air Force from 1969-1972. During that time he acquired his pilot’s license and logged thousands of hours in the air. Jack worked as a lead A&P mechanic with Piedmont Airlines from 1972 until his retirement in 2004. He was awarded the North Carolina A. Philip Randolph Institute Award and the U.S. Airways Award in 2009. Upon retirement, he worked for the Alliance for Retired Americans.
Jack served as recording secretary for Union Local Lodge 2444 IAMAW in Winston-Salem. He lobbied in Washington, D.C. for the F-22 Fighter program and for labor relations. He was elected as a delegate by his union for the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte in 2012.
Jack met the love his life, Linda, while stationed at Moody Air Force base in Valdosta Georgia in 1970. They would marry in 1972. They recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. He was a devoted husband and helped his wife build Studio Art Supply and Frame Shop in Pinnacle, NC. He played a vital role in the success of the business.
Mr. Marion is survived by his wife of 51 years Linda York Marion; ; two sons, Jack Darrell Marion Jr., and Matthew Ashley Marion (Laura Eason Marion) of Garner, NC ; one brother Ronald Ray Marion (Linda Holder Marion) of Pinnacle, NC; nieces Elizabeth Marion Hunter (John Wesley Hunter II) of Pilot Mountain, NC; Sydney Peacock of Raleigh, NC; one brother-in-law Richard Peacock of Clayton, NC; grand-daughter Cheyenne Champion of Garner, NC and great niece Megan Poteat of Pilot Mountain. And his beloved Kit Kat.
Mr. Marion was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Ann Marie Marion Peacock.

A funeral service for Mr. Marion will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at First United Methodist Church of Pilot Mountain. Memorial Honor Guard will be providing Military Honors. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at the First United Methodist Church of Pilot Mountain. Burial will follow at Pilot City Cemetery. Rev. Jeremy Pegram will be officiating the service.
