Jacqueline Sams Obituary

Jacqueline “Jacque” Gordon Sams passed peacefully on February 4, 2025 to join her late husband, Elijah R. Sams, Jr. in Heaven.  She was born April 22, 1926, in Stokes County, NC to the late Robert E. & Minnie Boyles Gordon. 

Jacqueline was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, farmer & pillar of the community: always known for her unwavering support & involvement.  She was an active member of Brims Grove Baptist Church, holding many positions over the years in Bible School, Sunday School & Women’s Missionary Union.  Jacque was a robust supporter of local schools, particularly during her children’s education & sports years, & was a constant face in civic organizations & community activities.  She was a founding member of the Double Creek Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Rock House Ruritan Club.  In her early years, she was active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in support of her husband’s WWII service.  Her beautiful legacy also includes those delicious & elegantly decorated cakes for local brides & birthdays throughout the community.

Jacque was preceded in death by her husband, Elijah; son, Dexter Eugene Sams; & five siblings.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Sams McClerin, Donna Sams (Garry) Johnson, David G. Sams, Daniel E. (Tara) Sams; grandchildren, Dominique McClerin, Jeremy (Jessica) Johnson, Courtney Johnson (Albert III) Stichka, Elijah Sams & George Sams; great-grandchildren, Banks, Sailor & Wells Johnson, Albert IV, Ellis & Oliver Stichka & Alisa Webster; & her great-great grandchildren, Grayson & Olivia Webster.  She is also survived by her youngest sister, Nancy Gordon Poore; dozens of loving nieces & nephews; & many dear friends & neighbors.

A funeral service for Mrs. Sams will be held at 1:30pm on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Brims Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Jones officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
