Mr. Jerry Warren Manuel, age 79, of Pilot Mountain, passed away on August 1, 2023, at Village Care of King.
He was born on July 7, 1944, in Forsyth County, to the late Bill and Vivian Barker Manuel.
Mr. Manuel retired from Reynolds and was of the Baptist faith. He was the oldest member of Pilot Mountain Rescue and EMS where he served for 58 years and also dedicated over 30 years of his life to the Surry County Sheriff’s Department and Pilot Mountain Police Department. Mr. Manuel enjoyed painting and woodworking as well as mowing the lawn, which was his “therapy”. He was an icon that taught many lessons to rescue personnel throughout Surry County and the state.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Susan Caudle Manuel; sons, Darin (Teresa) Manuel, Darrell Manuel, and Jason (Yasmin) Cook; daughter, Dana (Charlie) Linville; grandchildren, Jacob (Chelsea) Needham, Haley (Ethan) Manuel; Austin (Autumn) Cook; Mikayla (Tripp) Meland, Ashley (Mark) Manuel, Noah Cook, Josiah Cook, Elias Cook, Jonas Cook, and Ruby Cook; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Thomas (Glenda) Manuel, Dennis (Joann) Manuel, and Ronald (Janie) Inman; sisters, Judy (Hickmon) Simmons and Pam Manuel; all of his brothers and sisters from Pilot Rescue and EMS; and many other extended family members and friends.
Mr. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 5th, 2023, at Brims Grove Baptist Church at 11:00am with Rev. Gerald Jones and Brother DC Collins officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 4th, 2023, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Pilot Mountain Rescue and EMS, 615 E. 52 Bypass, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
