Joan Key

Joan F. Key, age 86, of Ararat NC, passed away on Aril 24, 2023, at the Surry Health Center.

She was born on February 16, 1937, to the late Solomon Burgess and Ethel Key Fulk.

Joan was a very talented seamstress, making wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses, suits, and any type of article of clothing. The clothes she made were finer than any you could buy in a store. She was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church.  She was also a member of the Red Hatters for a time. Joan was happiest around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was also a faithful caregiver for many years to numerous family members.

She is survived by special family members, Clinton and Doris Wood; her sons, Ralph O. Key Jr. and wife Gail, and Jeffrey Key and wife Melinda; daughter-in-law, Kathy Key; grandchildren, Shana Krings (Tyler), Tiffany Key (Ben Williams), Lisanne Key (Billy Tilley), A.J. Key (Zoey Hawks), and Ashley Sullivan (Collin); great grandchildren, Kaylee, Charlie, Joel, Cassidy, Samantha, Dean, Nolan, and Colt; sisters-in-law, June Fulk and Bonnie Fulk; brother-in-law, Johnny Tilley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Osborn Key; second husband, Bill Norman; sons, Aubrey Key, Marvin Key, Alfred Key, and Joel Key; and siblings, Warren Fulk, Curtis Fulk (Louise), Elba Joyce (L.B.), Vivia Tilley, and S.B. Fulk Jr.  

A graveside service will be held at 1309 Nurse Rd. Ararat, NC on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at Cox-Needham Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
