Mrs. Joann Elizabeth Tucker Nichols, age 82, of Pilot Mountain, went home to receive her heavenly reward on Saturday, January 22, 2022. She was born on February 13, 1939 to Bill and Alice Tucker in the Ararat community of Surry County.
She is survived by a daughter, Cindy; two sons, Mark and his wife Laura, Todd and his fiancé Kathy Lackey; six grandchildren Chase (Kelli and Gabriel), Ethan, and Molly (Xavier) Nichols, Thomas (Katie), Timothy, and Erika Foster; three great-grandchildren, Gabe Sawyers, and Michael and Marilyn Foster; two sisters, Betty Boyles and Carolyn Tedder; sisters-in-law, Hazel, Wilma, Betty and Barbara Tucker, and Brenda Nichols; brother-in-law, Walter Nichols; many nieces, nephews, cousins, her special church family, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her husband of over 52 years, Joe Bill Nichols; one sister and brother-in-law, Verda Mae and Carl Dezern; five brothers, Clevo, Calvin, Melvin, Clyde, and Rex Tucker; sister-in-law, Shirley Nichols; and brothers-in-law, Neil Boyles, Bill Tedder, and Dennis Nichols.
Joann was a faithful member of Pinnacle View Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. In addition to being a member of the choir and WMU, she served as church clerk for over forty years and served as secretary/treasurer for over fifty years. She was known for her talents as a florist which she shared with the community for over forty-five years in various flower shops, starting at Mountain View Florist and retiring from Pilot Mountain Flower Shop.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at 3pm at Pinnacle View Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Chamblin officiating. The family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. Please follow CDC covid protocol for safety. In the event of inclement weather, the service will also be held in the fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to the Foothills Food Pantry, 233 Cooper Street, Dobson, NC 27017. The family sincerely appreciates all expressions of sympathy and concern they have received.
