Obituary

Joel Goins, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away May 5, 2021 at Northern Regional Hospital. Born April 1, 1939, he was the son of James Thomas and Lucy Lawson Goins. A man who developed a hard work ethic, Mr. Goins was employed with Holcomb Creosote for many years. He also knew how to enjoy life, especially with his family. Favorite pastimes were taking long nature walks with his grandchildren, fishing, horseshoes, and getting a rousing game of softball going. He was well known for his love of gardening, whittling, his love of animals, his tinkering and playing guitars.

Left behind to cherish these memories are his loving wife, Sheller Sechrist Goins; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald (Amanda) Goins; a daughter, Sandy Hobson; seven grandchildren, Miraha, Zane, Zack, Alex, Montana, Haley, and Brittany; eight great-grandchildren, Hayden Riley, Dakota, Kelek, Kayleigh, Baymen, Sebastian, Valicity, and Hayden; a brother, Fred (Shirley) Goins; several nieces and nephews; and a special “adopted” daughter, Lori Hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Glenn Goins, Ralph Goins, Jack Goins; a sister, Gradie Brooks; and two sisters-in-law, Josephine Goins, and Marie Goins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 2:30 at Cox-Needham Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Charles Stevens will be officiating. Family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service.
