Johnie Winters Obituary

Johnie Lee Winters, 78, of Westfield, passed away at his home, April 4, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born January 13, 1943 in Forsyth County to John Columbus and Ethel Haley Winters. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of sixteen years, Frances Moss Moore Winters; two stepsons, Wayne (Tina) Moore, Danny (Sabrina) Moore; two stepdaughters, Wanda (Scott) Hervey and Rhonda (Daryl) Hill; a brother, Ronald A. Winters; a sister, Gloria Walker; and nine step grandchildren and ten step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and four stepchildren, Jerry, Claire, Barbara, and Allen. A love of history introduced Johnie to trains and their role in transportation across America. He was a train enthusiast and immensely enjoyed train rides with his wife. A man who took great pride in his country, served it well, in the US Navy. His cheerful resolve, devotion to his family and friends, will be deeply missed. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Moore Family Cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Moore will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice at 401 Technology Lane, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice for their impeccable care and compassion shown to Johnie during his illness. The family asks that all attendees please wear masks and practice social distancing. If not feeling well or running a fever, please refrain from attending.
