Joseph Wesley Cook, Jr. of Pilot Mountain went home to be with his Lord August 9, 2024 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born June 23, 1941 to the late J. Wesley and Mabel Allred Cooke.
Joe proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force for eight years. Six of those years were in Germany, where he met his wife of sixty-two years. After his military service, he returned to Surry County, where he worked as a mechanic at the airport in Mount Airy and later as a supervisor at Westinghouse Turbine Components plant in Rural Hall. He was a devoted member of Westfield Baptist Church and served in several ministries there throughout his adult life.
Joe was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and uncle who loved his family deeply, helped anyone he could, and enjoyed cutting wood and driving his motorcycles in his spare time. He enjoyed tinkering on engines, working with his hands, and described himself as being “good with a paintbrush.”
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Waltraud; his daughters, Karoline Overby (Grant); and, Heidi Hendrix; his five grandchildren, Nicholas Overby (Anna); Morgan Overby (Lauren); Emily and Madeline Dayton, and Will Hendrix; his six great-grandchildren, Clark, Graham, Thaddeus, Karolena, Beckett and Elsie Overby; his sister, Nancy Gordon; and, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Joe will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Woltz Hospice Home.
A graveside service will be held Friday, August 16,11am, at Westfield Baptist Church cemetery. No prior visitation.
Cox-Needham Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Cook family.
