Mr. Lawrence Gunter Thomas, age 82 of Pilot Mountain, formerly of Lee County, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Northern Regional Hospital in Mt. Airy after a short illness.
Lawrence born on April 1, 1942 in Lee County to the late D.J. Thomas & Gladys Thomas, both of Sanford. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Regina M. Thomas.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Donna V. Thomas of the home; his daughter, Jennifer Taylor & husband Doug of Pilot Mountain; his sister, Phyllis Bogan & husband, Tommy of Sanford; & his sister-in-law, Dorothy Holt & husband Frank of Asheboro.
Lawrence graduated from East Carolina University, formerly Eastern Carolina College, in 1964 with a degree in Business Administration. He served in the Army Reserve Special Forces Unit. Lawrence retired from the NC Department of Revenue after 35 years of service to the state of North Carolina.
Lawrence had many hobbies & interests that he enjoyed during his retirement, such as gardening, tennis, hiking, biking & most importantly, golfing. He was an avid golfer & will be greatly missed by his golfing buddies. During retirement, he had a determination to stay active.
Lawrence will be dearly missed by his loving family & friends. He will be remembered for being the nicest man anyone ever met, he was willing to help out anyone. He was especially known for taking excellent care of his wife.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, no formal services are being held at this time. Memorials may be made in his honor to the organization of the donors choice.
