Lorene Smith Obituary

In Loving Memory of Lorene Smith

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, Lorene Smith, who peacefully passed away on November 30, 2024. She was 89 years old.

Lorene was a woman of exceptional truth, warmth, and kindness, whose love touched everyone who knew her. Born on June 1, 1935, in Saltville, VA, Lorene’s life was filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to family and friends. Her fierce spirit and generous heart made her a cherished presence in the lives of all who had the privilege to know her.

As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Lorene was the cornerstone of her family. She raised her children with strong family values and virtue, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. She leaves behind a legacy of love, patience, and resilience that will live on through generations. Her wisdom, wit, and wholeheartedness will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family.

Lorene is survived by her loving daughter, Debi McManus and her husband Jim; her daughter-in-law Sally Smith; and her sister, Remona Murmillo and her husband Ed. She was the proud grandmother of Sean, Dom & Lori, Chrissy & Dave, Alexa & Matthew, Nicole & Zack, Brittany & Jake, Heydon & Eli, Sky & Louie, and Ethan. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren Tyler, Dominic, Keira, Amanda, Zachary, Vinnie, Jada, Kyleigh, Cayden, Gavin, Xander, Carson, and Poppy, as well as her great-great-grandchild, Gus. She was also Aunt Lorene to  numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents Garnett and Mary; beloved husband, Robert of 70 years; her sons, Bobby and Randy; her brothers, Gator, Gene, and Pete; and many other cherished family members. Lorene is now reunited with them in peace.

A memorial service to honor Lorene’s life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 1pm at Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain.

Though we mourn her passing, we are grateful for her to be reunited with her loving husband. Lorene’s spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. Rest in peace, Granma Lorene. You will always be deeply loved and missed
