Mable Hale Obituary

Ms. Mable Lou Hale, age 87, of Mount Airy, passed away on December 14th, 2024, at her home.

She was born on December 19th, 1936, in Logan County, West Virginia, to the late Chester and Martha Farley Slater.

Mable was known for her practical nature, her green thumb that made her garden the envy of her family, and her skill in the kitchen, where she prepared meals everyone enjoyed. She had a special love for feeding the wild birds that visited her yard and rarely missed watching an NFL game or college basketball matchup. She enjoyed a long and dedicated career as a medical secretary, working at Logan General Hospital in West Virginia and later at Northern Regional Hospital and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Gavin (Cindy) Hale, Rommel (Tracie) Hale, Melissa (Greg) Smith, and Amy (BJ Ricketts) Stilwell; sister, Kay Ascough, and brother-in-law, Larry Ascough; sisters-in-law, Peggy Slater and Brenda Slater, grandchildren, Joey Cheek, Benjamin (Hahnah) Hale, Nathan Hale, Parker Hale, Rylee (Zach) Fudge, Denise Stilwell, Suzannah Hale, Landon Smith, and Kaitlin Smith. Special nieces Lynn Vance and Martha Mareske, and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Hale was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Richard Hale; daughter, Tammy Hale Lewis; brothers, Harry Slater, Tommy Slater, and Douglas Slater; sister-in-law, Liz Slater; sister, Jean Mareske; brother-in-law, Ermet Mareske; and infant brother, Dwight Slater.

A private graveside service will be conducted Friday, December 20th, 2024, at Pilot Mountain City Cemetery at 2:00 PM with Rev. Cindy Shelton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans (help.dav.org) in Mable’s honor.
