Mary Ann Needham Johnson, 88, of Pilot Mountain, passed away November 16, 2021, at Arbor Ridge of Stanleyville. Born June 28, 1933, she was the daughter of Bart and Myrtle Needham-Needham. She leaves behind to cherish her precious memory, two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve (Karen) Johnson, Brent (April) Johnson; a daughter and son-in-law, Annette (Jay) Gammon; six grandchildren, April (Bill) Parker, Ashley Hill, Rosemary (David) Cox, Lauren (Chris) Alexander, Corrin (Tyler) Monday, Isaiah (Wendy) Johnson; nine great-grandchildren, Mary, Avery, Ashlyn, Lydia, Christian, Jeremiah, Dane, Jackson, and Hardin; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby (Connie) Needham; and a very special niece, Marilyn Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fifty-seven years, Hardin Adkin Johnson, Jr.; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy (Hazel) Needham, and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Maude (Harding) Danley, and Gladys (Bob) Crews.
Mary Ann, known affectionately as “Aunt Mary” by many, was a devout Christian. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church for eighty years and taught Sunday School there for sixty years. She was also a member of the Gideon’s Auxiliary. Mary Ann was a babysitter for many children in the community for several years. She was loving, caring, and involved in her children’s lives, as well as her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s, as long as her health permitted. Her final years were spent at Arbor Ridge in Stanleyville, where her ministry continued with the many friends she made there. Her warm and gentle spirit and beautiful prayers will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be conducted at First United Methodist Church in Pilot Mountain at 3:00 PM, on Friday, November 19, 2021. Family will receive friends 1:00 PM-2:45 PM, prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Steve Smith and the Rev. Steve Johnson will be officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, 1056 Long Hill Rd., Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
