Mary Ruth (Whitaker) Mickey

Mary Ruth Whitaker Mickey passed away peacefully at home April 29, 2024.

Mary was born November 16, 1933 to the late Ellis Jackson Whitaker and Lillie Wolfe Whitaker.

She was a high school graduate of Copeland High School’s class of 1951, of which she was the valedictorian. Mary was a devout Christian and dedicated member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Pinnacle, NC. She attended regularly, helped however she could and served as the church secretary for many years. Mary worked in insurance, transportation and banking before retiring.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a sister, Payge W. Hardy, two brothers, Don Whitaker (Shelba) and Lanny Whitaker Sr., two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Shore Whitaker and Phyllis Chappell Whitaker along with several nieces and nephews and a very special caregiver, Sandra Clubb.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ray Oliver Mickey, two brothers, Bruce Whitaker and Phil Whitaker, a sister-in-law, Linda Brinkley Whitaker and a brother-in-law, Ralph Hardy.

Visitation for friends and family will begin at 1:00pm on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, at Mt. Zion UMC.  The funeral will begin at 2:00pm. Pastor Robin Johnson will be officiating the service.
